The Cart Shed receives The Queen's Award

Posted on June 27, 2017

A much-deserved accolade for all the wonderful volunteers at The Cart Shed

The Cart Shed's wonderful volunteers have been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service – the MBE for voluntary groups.

The award has been given in recognition of the time and dedication the volunteers give to ‘transforming lives in Herefordshire by offering skills, friendship and a future to those in mental or physical distress’.

The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to local volunteer groups and charities across the UK to recognise outstanding work in their communities.

The awards were created in 2002 to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and winners are announced each year on 2 June – the anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation.

Cart Shed CEO Katie Eastaugh said: “We are very proud to receive this prestigious award, the MBE for voluntary groups, which symbolises the care, dedication and hard work of all the volunteers who have worked with us since The Cart Shed was founded in 2011.
Without their dedication and support, whether as drivers, cooks, a listening ear, or a skilled craftsperson, we would not be able to offer our unique ‘service without walls’. This service offers a lifeline to some of the most vulnerable adults in Herefordshire and surrounding counties. As CEO of The Cart Shed I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been involved with us – you really are a remarkable and generous team; we are forever in your debt."

The award will be handed to The Cart Shed by Lady Darnley on 6 October, during the Out of Nature sculpture show at Newport House.
