Sue Hiley Harris studied fine art at the Queensland College of Art in her home town of Brisbane.
Later, after moving to Britain, she studied hand-loom weaving at Bradford and science with the Open University. She now lives and works in Brecon, Wales. She has exhibited internationally and was awarded a major Creative Wales Award by the Arts Council of Wales in 2013.
My woven sculptures are concerned with space, line, interval and texture as well as with the properties of the materials used. Material, structure and form are inter-dependent. The forms are often built on pure geometric shapes, repeated or as multiple parts of a complete work. Significantly, the three materials used in these outdoor works – copper, silver and iron – will change in colour as they are weathered and exposed to the air over a period of time.
