Educated at Manchester University (BA History of Art, Modern and Mediaeval Art and Architecture, Pre-Raphaelites) and City and Guilds of London Art School (Sculpture/Carving), Mark Richards has worked as portrait and figure sculptor since 1983 and has completed over 160 medium and large scale works.
Notable commissions include the Gordon Highlanders commemorative statue, Aberdeen, theNickey Rackard commemorative statue, Wexford, and the Matthew Flinders memorial statue at Euston Station.
Statement
My work usually involves either portraiture or reflections upon the tradition of architectural and figurative sculpture in which I was trained. I respond to commissions, site-specific ideas or people and this forms the basis of my work.
