Born in Tortola, in the British Virgin Islands in 1966, Aragorn had a European education which introduced him to many artistic techniques such as pottery, print making, design and metal work. He complemented these studies with a degree in Art History at UEA, specializing in tribal and twentieth century art, architecture and design. Extensive travels have ignited in him a profound fascination in the power of human creativity and nurtured his belief in art as a unifying and healing human force. His medium of choice is metal -cast, beaten, polished, patina or cut out in silhouetted shapes - for its permanence. His large outdoor “fire sculpture” - spheres, pyramids or cubes , that come to life with fire, have generated a lot of attention and are regularly commissioned by both private collectors and public institutions. His sculpture has been exhibited world-wide from China, to the USA, Italy, UK and the Caribbean. In 1997 he directed the Gli Gli Carib Canoe project, which built a large traditional Carib canoe and sailed it from Dominica to Guyana. The BBC recorded the journey in the film “Quest of the Carib Canoe”. This expedition linked Aragorn with an extensive network of grass roots artisans and cultural activist ,which led him to become the Co-founder of the Caribbean Artisan Network. His abundant creative energy is embodied in his studio, pottery and local art centre situated at the heart of Trellis Bay Village, BVI. His dedication to the cultural arts blossoms in a centre where his own works are displayed amongst the works of the top artisans of the Caribbean and where craft skills are taught to all comers. Aragorn also owns and operates an organic farm in the British Virgin Islands, which is dedicated to supplying the marine industry with high quality local food.www.aragornbvi.comwww.caribbeanartisan.net www.aragornsstudio.comwww.goodmoonfarm.com
